Accreditation Update (2-15-08)
The ISHM Board continues to work toward making accreditation a reality. What might have appeared to be a reasonably doable task when the process started nearly 5 years ago has turned into a series of obstacles that have frustrated all of us involved in the process.
You can trust that the ISHM Board is aware of the concern among members about the lack of accreditation. Accreditation is the most important thing that your Board can accomplish at this point to enhance the level of credibility for the CSHM.
Previously, we hired 2 consultants to guide us through the process of attaining accreditation. In October, the ISHM Board considered proposals from 9 consultants to further assist us in the accreditation process. The Board elected to contract with Richard A. Goldberg and Associates. During the month of November, Richard A. Goldberg and Associates conducted a review and analysis of where we stand and what it would take to be accredited at this point. The results, while encouraging in some aspects, indicated we had much work remaining to meet standards for NCCA accreditation.
Last month (January), the ISHM Board held a Teleconference Board meeting at which time the results of the work from the latest consultant was discussed. The hurdles that we have in front of us to achieve NCCA accreditation were discussed, including the work necessary and the significant financial commitment necessary. The Board decided that although we still desire to achieve accreditation with NCCA that we would pursue accreditation through other accrediting organizations.
While the Board evaluates our options with other accrediting organizations, as well as with the NCCA, we ask for your continued patience. Rest assured that your Board is working hard to make accreditation a reality and we are fully committed to seeing that the CSHM gets accredited.
