Upcoming CSHM Exams!

To achieve certification, applicants must successfully complete a three-hour 150 multiple-choice examination. The exam evaluates knowledge in four general topic areas. More information about the exam may be found in the Electronic Certification Guide.

Monday, April 17th, 2006. Michigan Safety Conference, Lansing, MI. Application & Fees for testing must be submitted to ISHM no later than March 17th, 2006.

Sunday, June 11th, 2006. ASSE Conference, Seattle, WA. Application & Fees for testing must be submitted to ISHM no later than May 11th, 2006.

Sunday, Sunday November 5th, 2006. NSC Conference, San Diego, CA. Application & Fees for testing must be submitted to ISHM no later than October 5th, 2006.

Proctors Wanted

The Institute for Safety and Health Management is looking for CSHM’s that would be willing to proctor a CSHM exam. We are especially looking for proctors to provide exams in the Northeast (NY, NJ) and in Mississippi.

Those interested should contact our office at 877-201-4053 or email us at ishm "at" izones.net. Those chosen to proctor exams will be provided with a proctor’s guide and be required to sign a statement that the selected proctor understands the requirements.

Election Results

The membership voted on three positions for the Board of Directors. Charles Kelley was elected as a new Board member, Tom Slavin was re-elected and there was a tie between Carl Griffith and Greg Green. In a run-off election, Greg Green received the most votes and was elected as the third member.

Relationship with Compliance Magazine

In our spring 2005 newsletter we announced that an arrangement had been reached with Compliance Magazine in December 2004. Members receive a free subscription to their magazine, a 10% discount on audio conferences with COC’s provided to those that take the courses. In addition members who take the monthly quizzes in the magazines receive coc credit.

Member feedback on the value of these benefits would the welcome. Betty Hintch, Editor of Compliance Magazines and a public member of the ISHM Board recently wrote with an update to our relationship. Here are the details:
  • In 2006, Compliance Magazine will offer 12 articles and an equal number of quizzes to CSHM’s to earn COC credits. This is an increase of one quiz over last year, resulting in an extra 0.1 points available for the year.

  • Eight of the quizzes will be printed in the magazine and offered on the Compliance Magazine’s website. While four of the quizzes will be available on the Compliance Magazine website only.

  • The program fee for 12 quizzes is $70.00 or $7.00 for a single quiz. Until February 25, 2006, CSHM’s who participated in the program in 2005 may receive a $10.00 discount on the $70.00 fee. CSHM’s may contact ceservices@douglaspuclications.com to receive this discount.
