BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
Summary of ISHM Board Meeting (Teleconference) held June 20, 2006.
- Update discussion of accreditation application with following target dates identified: by September 1; have a consultant ready to review applications; have application ready to submit to NCCA by December 1.
- Members notified that there will be an exam in Providence, R.I., August 19; Atlanta, GA, September 2 (tentative); Morgantown, WV ( to be announced) and South Florida (sometime in December).
- Discussion held about an article concerning the CSHM for Compliance Magazine. Betty Hintch said she would interview a few CSHM members regarding success stories as a result of having the designation. If anyone is interested in sharing an experience they have had using their CSHM designation please let us know.
- Andy Sorine informed the Board that he is retiring from WVU, where the CSHM exam is maintained. Eric Van Fleet volunteered to maintain the exam at Grand Valley State University.
- It was announced that ISHM has a booth at the National Safety Congress Nov. 6-8. Several Board members will attend the conference and some will assist in working the booth, which is #1839. The Board will meet November 5, from 4:00-9:00 p.m.
- Steve Geigle suggested that CSHM members might receive COC points (not to exceed 1.2/per year) by answering questions taken from NSMS Digest articles. There were no objections.
NEWS BY AND ABOUT MEMBERS
In the winter 2005 edition of the Update we cited an email from Laurie Benic, a new CSHM. She took the exam in Grand Rapids, MI in early 2005 and reported that the CSHM had helped her obtain a safety position with Simplex Grinnell in Bentonville, Arkansas. Recently, we tried to contact her concerning an article for Compliance Magazine. We can not locate her. She no longer works for that company. Can anyone help in locating her?
