BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
Summary of ISHM Board Meeting March 18, 2006, Chicago
- New Board members Carl Griffith and Charles Kelley were introduced;
- Margie Kolbe-Mims was elected as Treasurer, replacing Greg Green, who resigned for health reasons;
- Members discussed the cut-score meeting held on February 12 and its value in assisting ISHM to gain accreditation. This was a major step in gaining accreditation;
- The 2006 budget was discussed and the Board determined that there needed to be reductions in expenses and increased revenues. As presented, the budget would result in a deficit of about $16,000 in 2006, with a total carryover of funds to 2007 of about $21,000. The Board approved an increase of the annual CSHM fee to $100 from the current $80. Reduction in expenses would mainly be through not exhibiting in Seattle at the ASSE conference in June;
- The update newsletter will be prepared on the following dates: April 1, July 1, October 1 and December 1;
- Due to financial concerns, the ISHM will not have an exhibit at the ASSE Conference in June;
- There will be two additional exams: one in New England in July or August and one in Jackson, MS in mid to late May;
- The Board discussed the necessity of having regular, reliable exam locations;
- The Managing Director’s contract was renewed at no increase in fee. The contract runs from April to April;
- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has approved the use of our logo and it is now registered. The name Institute for Safety and Health Management is also now registered.
News By and About Members
- It is with great sadness that we recently learned of the passing of Larry Graff, CSHM #1232. Larry worked as a Safety Specialist for Playtex Products, Inc., Dover, DE. He was certified in July 1999;
- We were pleased to receive an offer from Raymond Antonelli, CSHM #1340, to proctor an exam in the Northeast area. We have received several inquiries from prospects in the Northeast and have never given an exam in that part of the country;
- Charles Kelley, CSHM #1315, and recently elected to the ISHM Board of Directors, has volunteered to proctor an exam in Jackson, MS in mid-May.
