ASSE Professional Development Conference and Exposition
June 12-15, 2005 New Orleans, LA

The Institute for Safety and Health Management will participate in this major safety and health conference for the second consecutive year. We believe the conference offers a major opportunity to network with safety and health professionals. Last year in Las Vegas we had the opportunity to meet many CSHM's, as well as those interested in our certification.

Our booth is #1518. If you are planning to attend please drop by to visit and bring a prospect! We expect several of our Board members will be represented at our booth. Also, our newest board member, Betty Hintch will be working at the Compliance Magazine booth, please stop by and introduce yourself.

The ASSE Conference is three full days and features more than 200 sessions, an exposition with 300 exhibitors, special pre and post conference seminars, conference proceedings on CD and numerous networking events. More information and details can be found by going to www.asse.org

In conjunction with the conference, ISHM will be giving a CSHM examination on June 12, 2005. Please promote this exam through your various communication outlets.

Last year we held a drawing for a free ISHM golf shirt. To be eligible members needed to renew by August 31, 2004. Anthony Dell'lsola, Brooklyn, NY, CSHM #1048 was the winner.

All about paying dues

We will be sending out renewal notices on an earlier date this year. Last year notices went out the last week in July, this year we will send them out the first week of July and renewal fees will be due by September 30, 2005. Many members who have employers that pay their dues have indicated it is slow to process accounts payable, so we are allowing nearly three months notice this year. Because of the significant savings in postage, paper and labor we will email all invoices, if you make a change to your email prior to July please let us know. If your invoice is returned to us as undeliverable we will mail a paper copy. If you do not wish to be invoiced via email please contact our office at 877-201-4053.

Cynthia Duffield Resigns as Director

It was with deep regret that Cynthia informed the Board of her desire to resign as a Board Member. In addition to her position on the Board, Cynthia also served on the Executive Committee as Treasurer. Margie Kolbe-Mims was appointed the new Treasurer.

Cynthia was a great supporter of our certification program and networked to support our efforts within the public and private sector. She published an article in the U.S. Department of Interior's Newsletter which promoted our certification program and included the names of those with the Department that had received the CSHM designation. This is a great way to promote our certification program and we hope other CSHM's will follow a similar strategy. Those wishing assistance in developing language for publication and promotion may contact the Managing Director or go to our website for suggestions. We wish Cynthia the best and know that she will continue to serve ISHM's interest in the future.
