BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
Summary of ISHM Board Meeting held in San Diego November 5, 2006.
- Discussed replacement for the Managing Director. The Board asked that the position be advertised on our website for approximately 30 days.
- A notice of intention has been sent to NOCA notifying them that ISHM sill reapply for accreditation by January 31, 2007. The application of more than 250 pages has been prepared and will be reviewed by a consultant familiar with applications for accreditation.
- The financial condition of ISHM is improving, although we still have a number of members that have not yet renewed for 2007.
- We now have four schools approved for the ASHM program with the University of Wisconsin being the most recent school added to the list.
NEWS BY AND ABOUT MEMBERS
Gary Cudworth CSHM #1657, has been elected to a two-year term on The World Safety Organization Board of Directors. Gary currently works for the Aviation Division of Parsons Transportation Group.
Steven Geigle CSHM #1203, has retired from Oregon OSHA and has taken a position as Safety Trainer/Program Manager with Vestas Americas, Portland, Oregon. Steve is also involved in publishing the new NSMS Journal of Safety Management. If you are interested in being on the editorial board or in publishing an article in the Journal, please contact Steve.
James Kerns, CSHM #1248, has announced his retirement and will not continue his certification. He was most recently the Risk Management/Loss Control Specialist for the Spokane, Washington Educational Service District #101. We wish him the best in his retirement.
Richard W. Lack CSHM #1004, has retired as one of the very first CSHM's and will no longer continue his certification. He is the editor of “Essentials of Safety and Health Management”. He completed a 40 year career in safety management with a wide variety of industries and organizations. He started a consulting business in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1997. He served on the Board of Directors for the American Society of Safety Engineers and was elected to the honor of “Fellow of the Society”.
Richard has served on the governing Board of the National Safety Management Society and as president of NSMS Golden Gate Chapter. We wish him well in his retirement.
John Mewborn, CSHM # 1105, has retired. He has been active in Safety and Health Management organizations in South Carolina. John will not continue his certification. We wish him the best.
Frances Wallach CSHM#1207, has been awarded the highest award by ASTM International, the Margaret Dana Award. The award is given to individuals who make outstanding contributions to advancing voluntary standards for consumer safety products.
Dr. Wallach was chosen because of her tireless efforts in developing safer play areas for children and for her exemplary leadership in Subcommittee F 15.29 on Playground
Equipment for Public Use.
CSHMs Passed Away
William Dobberteen, CSHM, #1360. He was owner of B.K.E. Loss Prevention Services, Bonita, California.
Bervin Hall, CSHM, #1160. He was the Owner/Manager of Safety Excellence, Parker, Colorado.
