MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
by Jan Rosenberg

Professional certification is one of the single most important steps you can make in your career development. There are many reasons to pursue professional certification as a Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM).

Among the reasons to seek certification is:
  • Certification demonstrates an individual’s commitment. Certification as a CSHM demonstrates your commitment to the safety and health profession to your peers, business associates, and the general public. Today, college degrees alone are no longer the full measure of knowledge in a rapidly changing workplace. Certification serves to distinguish professionals as leaders in their fields.
  • Certification improves career opportunities and acts as a means to advancement. Certification can be the deciding factor when being considered for a promotion or key assignment and serves to distinguish professionals in the decision making process.
  • Certification leads to greater on-the-job responsibilities. Certification demonstrates a willingness to invest in your own professional development.
  • Certification enhances a profession's image. Certification grows, promotes, and develops professionals. Being a CSHM demonstrates that you have a level of competency in the safety and health field.
  • Certification reflects a level of achievement. By becoming certified, you have demonstrated the effort to improve yourself both professionally and personally. You have shown the ability to meet standards and requirements through certification.
  • Certification brings professional recognition. An increase in recognition is achieved from peers and business associates for earning certification credentials such as the CSHM.
