Is the CSHM certification accredited?

Yes the CSHM is accredited by the Council of Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB) one of three agencies authorized to accredit personnel certification programs.

Is the ASHM accredited?

The ASHM is a value-added designation that is designed as a building block to the CSHM certification and is not accredited.

What fees are required?

As with all certification programs there are fees involved to obtain and maintain ISHM designations. If you check the fees with other certification programs, you will find that ISHM is a great value. Application fees are $100.00, the CSHM exam fee is $100 + test site fees, annual renewal fees are CSHM - $125.00 and ASHM $95.00. (These are all US fees. What is the billing cycle for renewal fees?

Currently ISHM has two billing cycles. For all who have earned their certification/designation prior to August 1, 2010 the billing cycle runs from October 1 to September 30 the following year. For those earning their designation after August 1, 2010 ISHM has two billing cycles. If you earn your designation between April 1 and September 30 you billing cycle will be from April 1 to March 30 of the following year. If you earn your designation between October 1 and March 30 your billing cycle will be from October 1 to September 30 of the following year.

What are COC points?

COC is Continuance of Certification. The purpose of the Continuance of Certification [COC] program which is to ensure that CSHMs continue to develop and enhance their professional safety and health management knowledge and skills for the duration of their active careers. The emphasis of the COC program is on continuing education. Participation in the COC program is a key element of continuing competence in the profession. CSHM’s must accrue 30 COC points in a five year cycle.
